Pamela Anderson says Sarah Palin can “suck it.”
Not literally.
That’s Pam’s job.
If you have a camera and aged rock star.
Or so I’ve heard.
Thanks for reading, Mom.

Uh… Rose McGowan, while in Toronto promoting 50 Dead Men Walking, her forthcoming film about a young man who goes undercover within the IRA, says, had she grown up in Ireland, she’d of joined the group.
My heart just broke for the cause. I imagine, had I grown up in Belfast, I would 100% have been in the IRA. Violence is not to be played out daily and provide an answer to problems, but I still understand it.
Martin McGartland, whose real-life exploits the movie is based upon, said her remarks were “foolish and offensive.”
It’s easy to say that sort of thing when you live in LA. Rose McGowan’s comments were insulting to victims of IRA terrorism and she should apologize. She clearly doesn’t know anything about Northern Ireland.
Thank the Lord she wasn’t making a movie about al-Qaeda. More here.

Conservative Lionel Chetwynd, along with producers David Permut and Mark Travis, are planning a 10 city tour of their one-man show about actor/president Ronald Reagan.
A “significant” name is in talks to play Reagan and the final show is expected to be filmed and repackaged as a theatrical release.

Director J.J. Abrams tried to give William Shatner a cameo in his new Star Trek movie, but says the actor was, basically, a huge prima donna.
[H]e was very vocal that he didn’t want to do a cameo. We tried desperately to put him in the movie, but he was making it very clear that he wanted the movie to focus on him significantly, which, frankly, he deserves. The truth is, the story we were telling required a certain adherence to the Trek canon and consistency of storytelling. It’s funny — a lot of the people who were proclaiming that he must be in this movie were the same people saying it must adhere to the canon. Well, [Shatner's] character died on screen. Maybe a smarter group of filmmakers could have figured out how to resolve that.

I had to look up who this guy is, but British actor/comedian Russell Brand recently hosted the MTV Music Awards and, apparently, remarkably, MTV forced him to cut one of his bits on Sarah Palin.
I wanted to say she was forcing her teenage daughter to have a baby because she is so anti-abortion. But also, as a Republican, she is pro-execution so she is going to give [her daughter] the electric chair for being a little slut.

The film adaptation of the Virulents comic appears to be going forward with John Moore (Max Payne) attached to direct.
Per the Los Angeles Times, the crux of the graphic novel is:
[A]bout the awakening of an ancient, mystical evil in the mountains of war-torn Afghanistan, where two military units, one American and one Indian, find themselves fighting terrorists as well as an enemy that is far from human. The moral of the story is to be careful of the war you start and to also be sure you know your true enemy.
Huh, I thought the ancient evil we awoke in the mountains of Afghanistan was just radical Islam… or, Islam, for short.

Writing in Time, Richard Corliss says that not only is The Hurt Locker a “near-perfect” war film, with a star-making turn by Jeremy Renner (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), but it’s overall theme is one of respect for the troops and the type of mettle required to do such a job.
Yeah, take it with a heaping grain of salt, but fingers crossed.

Evangeline Lilly (Lost) might just be the most thoughtful actor working in Hollywood… which, yes, I realize isn’t exactly saying much.
When approached by director Kathryn Bigelow about playing a small cameo in her Iraq-themed film The Hurt Locker, Lilly, a deeply religious Baptist, called the director to ascertain if the tone of the film would be in keeping with her own beliefs.
I told her what I fear is that you and I are in any way on a different page when it comes to our feelings about this war. I don’t want to be part of propaganda that I can’t stand behind.
Sure, she could of been worried that it would be a jingoistic pro-troop polemic, but this being Hollywood, I’m guessing her concerns tilted in the other direction.

Spike Lee is quite certain that the Academy’s, alleged, New York bias cost him a Best Director nomination on Do The Right Thing and that his recent public feud with Clint Eastwood over the lack of black soldiers in Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima will similarly spoil his chances with Miracle at St. Anna, a film that is currently being trashed by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter… but they’re obviously racist.
It must be exhausting to have everyone and everything conspiring against you. Poor fella.

Spike Lee may have grown up watching WWII movies, but he made Miracle at St. Anna to rebut “the same Hollywood bull*&^% mythology” he found in those films.
John Wayne is kicking Nazi ass and he’s kicking Japanese ass. If it’s a western, he’s killing the savage Indians … I’m not trying to kill [Wayne's reputation], because it wasn’t his fault, but he was built up to represent America.
Good to know it wasn’t Wayne’s “fault.” More here.

Actor Alec Baldwin has slammed NBC for promoting My Name is Earl, which he says is “cooked,” over his own show, 30 Rock.
The creator of My Name Is Earl, Greg Garcia, responded by calling Baldwin “unlikable,” “distasteful,” and a “psychotic narcissist.”
Baldwin shot back in a Huffington Post op-ed on Sarah Palin that “for Earl’s creator, Greg Garcia, who referred to me as a ‘psychotic,’ I have only one question. Why are you Scientologists always rendering these medical opinions you aren’t qualified to give?”

Director John Moore is upset that the MPAA has given Max Payne an R-rating.
They Motion Picture Association of America gave The Dark Knight a PG-13 rating and basically sucked Warner Bros.’ (expletive).
They said to me, the movie feels R. And I said, ‘What the (expletive) is that, a group therapy session?’ You can’t do that. They’re meant to judge content, not intent. They said the movie felt dark.

I was listening to Hugh Hewitt’s radio show today while driving home from work. Drumroll….. Clint Howard is a Republican — or he’s voting for McCain/Palin anyway and had a lot of great things to say. How’s that for conservatives in Hollywood? Dude works ALL the time — even without his brother. Apparently he’s a semi-regular on Hugh’s show. Bonus points as to the significance to the picture above (probably a softball to all you film school experts, but bear with the layperson).
He ain’t Angie Harmon, but we’ll take all the help we can get. Major drawback (if there is a drawback to being Ron’s brother) is he’s a Steelers fan.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times for the upcoming Body of Lies, director Ridley Scott says he’d use torture, if necessary.
‘If I want to get information out of somebody, I have to do it. And it makes it a lot easier if that person put a bomb in a square or blew up a bunch of kids, I’d definitely take a cricket bat to him.’ He glanced over at DiCaprio for confirmation. ‘Right?’
DiCaprio clamped his lips together, averted eye contact and almost imperceptibly shook his head.
Nice, Leo. No to torture, even if it could save a bunch of kids. What a principled young fella.

The Independent (U.K.) says that Tarantino’s script for Inglorious Bastards may play loose and fast with the facts, feature Hitler, Goebbels and Churchill, but it’s also “simply brilliant” and has “the whole of Hollywood” scrambling for a part in the production.
Q.T. has built up a lot of goodwill with me and I think he’s a pretty singular talent, so I’ve got my fingers crossed for this one, as, ironically, it may be the only war film that portrays Americans kicking clearly delineated bad guy butt for quite some time.
